A meeting with Anne-Sophie Hennique, the founder of Champagne du Goupil

We always love to share a travel tale or two from our wine journeys. One of the most enchanting encounters was a meeting with Anne-Sophie Hennique, the founder of Champagne du Goupil. Anne-Sophie’s story is nothing like that of any other winemaker we have met, and oh, she has such a great story to tell.
Anne-Sophie is a Literature graduate of Sorbonne University, and the author of the novel: À la volée: Tribulations dune jeune fille peu avisée (On the fly: Tribulations of an ill-advised young girl), which got published in 2022. Like Monsieur Fox, the protagonist of the story behind Champagne du Goupil, Anne-Sophie hails from Versailles, and settles down in Champagne to forge a career working on the drink she loves.
Having worked previously in marketing at Champagne Salon and Champagne Delamotte, Anne-Sophie seems to have taken a cue from her previous employer - to produce only the best, and the most exclusive wines. The grapes in her cuvée are derived from all the six Grand Cru villages in the prestigious lands of Côte des Blancs.
We befriended Jean-Patrick, her pet pig, and toured the winery of the Domaine, behind the castle where she lives. The winery was expansive, the facilities state-of-the-art. It is clear that Anne-Sophie has well-thought plans to expand her production in the near future.
We sampled the wine, and were flanked by balanced acidity, buttery brioche and deep minerality. The rest was history. We were sold.
And here it is, Champagne du Goupil Millésime 2013 is on our shelves. We hope you love the story, and we are sure you will love the wine as much as we do.
